Our kickboxing training is a combination of Savate (French Kickboxing), Thai Boxing and Cross-Training. This is based on the unique stand-up system taught and developed by the world-renowned fighter and coach, Erik Paulson .
From Savate (French Kickboxing), STX draws it’s footwork and evasiveness. Savate is known for being highly mobile and constantly moving, which makes you harder to hit and allows you to attack at angles. STX also capitalizes on Savate’s many fakes and setups so that the opponent is constantly guessing as to which attack is real and what is just a misleading fake. Following the misleading attacks is a system of extremely fluid combinations that help to allow the fighter to land more hits than the opponent while moving in and out of range, at good angles.
On defense, STX draws from some of its unique defense and counter techniques that help to keep your opponent out of his game and help you to set up your shots more like a chess match. Savate also has a much longer range kicking method.
From Thai Boxing, STX draws it’s powerful kicking and conditioning. It also utilizes the “stand your ground” attitude of Thai Boxing with good, strong defensive techniques and quick, powerful counters. STX also uses the closing and clinching techniques that Thai Boxing is known for so that you can control and apply knees, elbows and close range punching.
Although STX is heavily based in Savate and Thai Boxing, it also has elements that are modified and used from other arts and disciplines. From Filipino Kali, it will sometimes use the concept and techniques of destruction to inflict pain on the opponent even while defending his attacks. From Indonesian Silat it will draw upon it’s use of sweeps and off-balancing techniques to keep the opponent fighting to stay on his feet in close range. From Greco-Roman Wrestling it draws upon it’s powerful clinching techniques to enhance what is already there in Thai Boxing for maximum control on the inside.
STX even has elements from Jun Fan, Judo, Shooto, etc., but it is all applied from the Savate-Thai Boxing delivery system.
